In March 1968, "I Can't Let Maggie Go" became the third Honeybus single and the one which would ensure their place in the history books. The single hit number 8 in the UK and became a huge hit worldwide, but by the time their album Story was released in February 1970, the band was no more. However, the classic Honeybus line-up of Pete Dello, Colin Hare, Ray Cane and Pete Kirchner got back together again in 1971 to record new material. An album entitled Recital was slated for release in 1973 by Warner Brothers UK. But it was not to be (only a handful of white label copies were pressed for record company personnel, which became the holy grail of Honeybus collectors everywhere)... Until now, 45 years later here it is for the first time, the long lost gem: the Recital album. Pete Dello: “The pressing came out perfectly and I'm very pleased with it! Now one can hear that all these Recital songs obviously belong together like peas in a pod and were all lost and without context on that two CD anthology … the pressing is different enough from the other recordings to make my wife and myself feel we were listening to it for the first time - which must be good. Now I am excited.” Colin Hare: “Wow! on first hearing I`m impressed. I`ve just heard bits of string arrangement I never heard before. We always tried to avoid compressing everything, but really the tracks are now so much clearer and easier to listen to. There were a lot of wild frequencies, high and low that have now been eradicated. It`s a vast improvement in my view. I feel excited now. It could end up as quite a respectable album, whereas before we were happy to forget about it.”
